Alec Burks Trade

Knicks Cap Space Increased

Burks and Noel Traded to Pistons

New York Cleared 19 Million

The New York Knicks are trading center Nerlens Noel and guard Alec Burks to the Detroit Pistons in a move that will save the Knicks approximately $19 million in salary cap space, according to ESPN.

The Knicks, who are reportedly looking to make a run at Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, have been trying to clear cap space all offseason. The trade of Noel and Burks brings them closer to their goal.

Noel, 28, is a veteran big man who has played for the Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Dallas Mavericks. He averaged 3.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season.

Burks, 30, is a versatile guard who has played for the Knicks, Utah Jazz, and Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season.

The Pistons are getting two solid veterans in Noel and Burks. Noel will provide them with some much-needed size and rebounding, while Burks can contribute as a scorer and playmaker.

The Knicks, meanwhile, are now in a better position to make a run at Mitchell or another star player in free agency. They have approximately $30 million in cap space, which should be enough to sign a max contract player.
